• A Government is an actual body involved in politics and employing governance to reach it's ends.
• Governance is the mechanism by which a Government empowers politics.

With those out of the way we can talk about how the relation between software and government sparked a flood of insight that I'm still recovering from.
As you've heard on the news, WordPress has implemented some new functionality for their blogging software. This new functionality is an attempt by the creators to protect their users. The process of protection involves what some would consider to be a violation of privacy. The creators are quick to point out that the new functionality can be disabled through a few plugins.
Regardless of which side of the fence you're on, it is interesting to think about the interactions of developers and users - it is a form of government involving politics and methods of governance. However, unlike other forms of government, this new beast has abilities that medieval individuals only dreamed of.
